Trek Overview

Tamang Heritage Trail Trek is one of the most exciting treks located just close to the regular Langtang valley area trekking route which is not the regular traveler’s trail. We can see beautiful different cultures, religions, and daily lifestyles of Tamang community of Langtang region. Tamang Heritage Trek is especially for those trekkers, who would like to explore the untouched heritage and lifestyle of indigenous Tamang people. During the trek, you can also visit a Tamang monastery. This trek is best to acquire the combination of the best natural and cultural experience.

Note: below trekking hours, altitudes and distances are approximate, and absolutely for general idea only.


  1. Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport (1,302m/4,270ft)

    You will be received and escorted to the hotel by our staff, refresh yourself and take some rest or explore the area around your hotel. Accommodate at Kathmandu.

  2. Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and Trek preparation

    Kathmandu is the cultural heart of Nepal and has been a famous destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its borders to visitors. Today after breakfast we will explore Kathmandu valley, a guided tour will be conducted to major world heritage sites inside the valley. As Kathmandu valley is a beautiful combination of Hinduism and Buddhism we will visit historical sites like; Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath (monkey temple) and Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath which is one of the largest stupa in the world. After the tour you will prepare yourself for the trek, will be briefed about the trek; buy all the trekking equipments required and overnight at hotel.

  3. Day 03: Kathmandu to Syabru Besi (1,420m/4,658ft) approx 6 – 7hrs drive

    We will be using the roadway to travel from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi from where we will be starting our trek. With a beautiful drive, the roads twist and turn along the high hills as we pass through many remote villages and get to see the villagers working in their fields. Once we reach our destination we will be accommodating overnight in a lodge and prepare ourselves for the trek with some briefings given by the guides.


  4. Day 04: Syabru Besi to Gatlang (2337m/7690ft) 5-6hrs trek

    We start our trek from today, we take a dirty zigzag trail to Bahundanda and then down to Tamang settlement of Gatlang. Through the trail we come across the village of Chawatar where we will have our lunch. After few more hours of trekking from Chawatar w ewill reach Gatlang, It is a Tamang village with people following traditional Tamang cultures. The homes are closely connected. We can visit a cheese production center nearby the village; we will stay the night here.

  5. Day 05: Gatlang to Tatopani (2,607m/8,553ft) 6-7hrs trek

    We will continue our trek and head towards Tatopani which naturally signifies ‘hot water’; you can take hot bath in natural hot springs. We trek with a descent to Thangbuche and witness views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang Ranges along the way. Trekking further we pass by the Chilime Hydropower dam and ascend until Tatopani where we will rest the night.

  6. Day 06: Tatopani to Thuman (2,338m/7,342ft) 5-6hrs trek

    Today’s trekking trial start by ascending to Nagthali Danda (3,165m/10,383ft), we trek via Bimthang coming across different animals like deer and monkeys. From Bimthang, its a few hours walk uphill until Nagthali hill. From Nagthali we can see panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, Sanjen ranges. Trek continues down to Thuman, Tibetan-influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance, it is popular for its Shamanic performances and beautiful view of Langtang. Beautiful view of the mountains can be seen from every house in Thuman. We will spend the night here.

  7. Day 07: Thuman to Timure (1,762m/5,780ft) 5hrs trek

    With an early start we continue our trek; through the trail we can visit a nearby historical Rasuwagadhi, border part of Nepal and Tibet. Through the trail we will enjoy typical Nepali houses and beautiful monastery, few more hours of trekking and we will arrive at Timure an old trade route to Tibet, a fort here is a historical reminder of the Nepal – Tibetan relations that has existed for many centuries. We will stay the night here in Timure.

  8. Day 08: Timure to Briddim (2,229m/7,312ft) 6hrs trek

    Today with an early breakfast we trek to Briddim to have a closer view of mountains and cultural by short walking in the land of cultural; and traditional lifestyle Langtang region. We will also explore the beautiful Briddim Village; most of the houses here are built by stones and are inhabited mostly by people of Tibetan origin. We will rest the night here in the village.

  9. Day 09: Briddim to Syabrubesi (1,420m/4,658ft) 3hrs trek

    After having breakfast at the lodge we then descend towards Syabru besi. Today is the last day of our trek; the trail passes through meadows and cultivated fields. After few hours of walking we reach our lodge where we will rest the night.

  10. Day 10: Syabru besi to Kathmandu 9hrs drive

    Today we will walk up to where our vehicle will be waiting for us and from there we will be transferred to our hotel in Kathmandu. After a long drive we reach Kathmandu and will have free leisure time either to rest or explore Kathmandu Valley, you will stay the night in Kathmandu.

  11. Day 11: Back Home

    Leisure time and explore Kathmandu until the departure time when you will be transferred to airport and fly back home.
