Mountain Biking to Upper Mustang provides an opportunity to explore the rich Tibetan culture tradition and lifestyle along with nature and rustic architectural heritage.

The adventurous mountain biking experience in Upper Mustang offers awe-inspiring biking adventures while taking pleasure in viewing charming valleys, magnificent soaring mountains, sacred ancient Buddhist monasteries, caves, Lo-Manthang royal palace, lush green fields of barley and mustard, beautiful varied landscapes, and secluded villages with quaint white washed houses.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport (1,302m/4,270ft)

You will be received and escorted to the hotel by our staff, refresh yourself and take some rest or explore the area around your hotel. Accommodate at Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and preparation

Today after breakfast we will explore Kathmandu valley, a guided tour will be conducted to major world heritage sites inside the valley. As Kathmandu valley is a beautiful combination of Hinduism and Buddhism we will visit historical sites like; Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath (monkey temple) and Buddhist shrine of Boudhanath which is one of the largest stupa in the world. We also need this day to proceed for restricted area permit. We stay overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara 800m/2624 feet; 25min.

After breakfast you will be transfer to airport and take a short scenic flight to Pokhara. Pokhara is one of the beautiful cities surrounded by several lakes with majestic vistas of the Annapurna range. Pokhara is recognized as a centre for adventure sports devotee. Once we land Pokhara, our representative will drive you to Hotel. After taking short rest, we will explore Pokhara place of interest. Pokhara is exceptional with its laid-back ambiance and unique skyline, surrounded by the majestic Machhapuchre and the Annapurnas Himalayans. We will overnight near lakeside hotel.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom and bike to Kagbeni (2810M/9219ft)- 2 to 3 hours

Early in the morning, we head to airport by private vehicle and take 20 minutes spectacular flight to Jomsom. The flight offers fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and several snowcapped mountains. Once we land Jomsom, we will take breakfast and spend time in assembling bikes for the journey. We initiate our biking expedition following the Kaligandaki River on a flat section and steady ride of about 2 hours to Kagbeni. Once you reach Kagbeni, you can spend your leisure time exploring charming Tibetan village. We stay overnight in lodge.

Day 05: Kagbeni to Samar (3290M/10,793ft)- 5 to 6 hours

Today after having decent breakfast, we ride to Samar. From Kagbeni you enter the restricted area of Upper Mustang. There are numerous ascends and descend trails that takes you to Tangbe village (3060m). After you walk further and move downward you will arrive at Chhuksang village (2980m) that offers several beautiful white washed houses and terraced fields.

You will reach Chele village after more ascent and descent trails along the Kali Gandaki River. From Chele the trail ascends to the Chele La Pass (3630m/11,909 ft).After traversing the ridge from Chele La the trail takes into a huge sided valley and descends to Samar (3620m/11,876 ft) where you will enjoy the majestic backdrop of Annapurna range subjugated by Nil Giri from the distant.

  • Fantastic view of Tilicho, Yakawa Kang and Damodar Danda from the top of  Chele village
  • View of Annapurna range from Samar.

Day 06: Samar to Ghami (3490m/11,450ft)- 5 to 6 hours

Today we continue to climb the hills. We traverse four passes Taklam La 3624 meters(11,889ft), Dajori La 3735 meters(12,253 ft), Bhena La 3860 meters(12,664ft) and lastly Yamda La at 3860 meters(12,664ft) followed by few ups and downs. Then we take a short ascent to Syangboche La before undulating jeep track makes effortless ride through the open valley landscape and barley fields to Ghiling.

From here we climb ride-able jeep track up to Nyi La at 4010 meters (13,156 ft).On the way you will see exciting views of Mustang, Annapurna and Nilgiri. When the area opens up, you can see the lush mustard and barley fields. From the pass till Ghami is pleasant single track downhill and then back onto jeep track. We stay overnight in Ghami.

Day 07: Ghami to Lo-Manthang (3810M/12,500ft)- 4 to 5 hours

Today before Lo-Manthang, we traverse Lo La Pass popularly called “Windy Pass” situated at 3,810 meters. From here you can see the walled city of Lo-Manthang, the district of Mustang that makes you feel lost in another era. The barren brown terrain is spread with fields of vibrant green and gold rolling with the wind under the bright blue sky of the Himalaya, offers you truly unforgettable vista. You will enjoy the open jeep track trail all the way to Lo-Manthang.

Day 08: Rest and exploration day at Lo-Manthang (3810M/12,500ft)

Today we will take rest at Lo Manthang after a long day ride. We spend our leisure time by visiting three major interesting monasteries (with beautiful displayed Thangka paintings and art) and a four-storey royal palace of an old Mustangi king. We’ll explore Lo Manthang village of mixed settlements and observe their lifestyle and their everyday household tasks

Day 09: Lo-Manthang rest and Exploration day (3810M/12,500ft)- 6 to 7 hours

Today we have option to ride up to Garphu. We follow the upper Kali Gandaki River, traversing over numerous of its streams that leads you to Ghom. You can see Jong cave tunneling intricately on the mountainside which is the historical spot of a Monastery and the cave of one thousand windows. The way back from Ghom is beautiful single track through traditional villages. You will truly experience the nature, isolated Tibetan culture, history, astounding landscapes and feeling of being in an ancient rustic town that will make your today’s trip worthy and special memories.

Day 10: Lo-Manthang to Ghami via Dhakmar (3520M/11548ft)- 5 to 6 hours

Today we start our day with hearty breakfast and leaving Lo-Manthang behind. We do biking over the 4090 meters (13,418ft) Pangga Pass, which is a demanding climb although an exciting route that offers beautiful view from the top.

We then follow the river to Ghar Ghumpa at 3950 meters (12,959ft). We ascend to Mui La (Pass) at 4170 meters (13,681ft), where you have to lift bike for a while and then take a ride downhill to Dhakmar before riding on to Gami. Dhakmar is an amazing red landscape of Dhakmar village from the pass. The vegetation at Dhakmar is greener than in other places of Upper Mustang. We will continue to ride from Dhakmar to Gami where you will get to see picturesque village and the longest Mani wall in Mustang along the way.

Day 11: Gami to Samar (3660M/12007ft)- 6 to 7 hours

This route goes back over the similar trail as we passed on the way up. There is quite a bit of ascent involved today. If the weather is favorable you will see the Annapurna range. We ride several single track sections and arrive at the picturesque Buddhist village of Samar where majority of people engaged in agriculture. We’ll see a lot of horses here as they are used as mode of transportation and for agriculture purpose.

Day 12: Samar to Chuusang (3050M/10,006ft)- 6 to 7 hours

Today we will leave Samar behind as we have to traverse two small passes, Dajori La (3735M/ 12253ft) and Taklam La (3624M/ 11889 ft). Along the way the trail passes the holy place where the antique art of Sky Burial is carried out. Additionally, you may see the exceptional Himalayan Vultures towering in the sky. We ride a bike on downhill to Chhusang and stay overnight here.

Day 13: Chuusang to Jomsom (2810M/9219ft)- 7 hours approx

We will take a gradual ride from Chhusang along the river back to Kagbeni. You can either stay overnight here or continue down the valley to Jomsom for your overnight stop. We leave the kingdom of Upper Mustang and head back into the Annapurna Region. We return to the paved track of Kagbeni and starts off ride along the river bed to Jomsom

Day 14: Fly to Pokhara and onto Kathmandu

We take morning flight to Pokhara and onto Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu our representative will transfer you to hotel. You will have a time to take rest and freshen up. You can spend your leisure time by shopping souvenir for you dear ones.

Day 15: Fly back Home

You will be assisted by our staff in a vehicle and transferred to TIA airport in Kathmandu from where you will take your flight back home.
