Nepal Sanctuary Treks began its formal sustainability journey through Travelife, an internationally recognized sustainability certification programme for tourism businesses. Travelife provided NST with a framework to measure its environmental and social impacts, strengthen responsible business practices, and improve its operations.
Nepal Sanctuary Treks achieved Travelife Partner status in 2018, recognizing its progress in areas including environmental management, responsible supply chains, employee welfare, community engagement, and sustainable tourism practices.
In 2019, Nepal Sanctuary Treks achieved Travelife Certified status, marking an important milestone in the company’s sustainability journey. However, the company viewed certification not as an end goal, but as a commitment to keep improving year after year.
In December 2025, Nepal Sanctuary Treks achieved its third Travelife Certified renewal, demonstrating the company’s long-term dedication to responsible tourism. The certification covers more than 200 sustainability criteria, including independent onsite audits.

Nepal Sanctuary Treks minimizes waste by encouraging travelers to avoid single-use plastics, carry reusable water bottles, and dispose of waste responsibly. In partnership with Doko Recyclers, NST supports recycling and waste segregation, while trekking guides and crew collect litter along the trails to help keep Nepal’s trekking routes clean.

Guides carry essential safety equipment, including first aid kits, pulse oximeters, portable altitude chambers, and satellite phones, while monitoring altitude risks through oxygen checks and the Lake Louise AMS Scoring System.
