Trip Overview

Taplejung to Tumlingtar Trek is one of the most popular trekking destinations in eastern Nepal. The region was opened for trekkers in 1998 and yet many parts of the region are left to be discovered. The trek offers trekking through unexplored trails, alpine country, and traditional Nepali villages. The trek leads through a pleasant lowland country. And the trails are yet unexplored by tourists; this makes the trek more exciting and challenging.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport (1,302m/4,270ft)

You will be received and escorted to the hotel by our staff, refresh yourself and take some rest or explore the area around your hotel. Accommodate in a hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and Trek preparation

Kathmandu is the cultural heart of Nepal and has been a famous destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its borders to visitors. Today after breakfast we will explore Kathmandu valley, a guided tour will be conducted to major world heritage sites inside the valley. As Kathmandu valley is a beautiful combination of Hinduism and Buddhism we will visit historical sites like; Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath (monkey temple) and Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath which is one of the largest stupa in the world. After the tour you will prepare yourself for the trek, will be briefed about the trek; buy all the trekking equipments required and overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Fly to Bhadrapur & Drive to Ilam

With an early wake up call, you will get ready and be transferred to the airport from where you will fly to Bhadrapur. Landing at Bhadrapur there will be a vehicle waiting for us which will drive us to Ilam. Overnight at Guest house.

Day 04: Drive to Taplejung & Trek to Dobhan (717m/2,352ft) 2-3hrs trek

After early breakfast we drive for about 4 hours to Taplejung, leaving Taplejung behind us and trek towards Doban through the old trail passing IT Hotel and Lodge. We trek along this old trail because the new trail is longer and dirty and it is less interesting too. We begin to descend passing a police station and further trekking through the stairs to the village of Tirze. From here we will trek further to Deulinge, if the weather is clear we will be offered with views of Mount Jannu. We will then cross few more villages and finally cross Tamor River to Dobhan, near the village there is a suitable camping site where we will also camp our tents and stay overnight.

Day 05: Doban to Gorcha (2,013m/6,604ft) 4-5hrs trek

After having breakfast we cross a big suspension bridge leaving Dobhan; as we begin to trek the trail goes uphill. Along the trail we mainly trek through the countryside and find yourself surrounded by rice paddies and mustard fields. Few hours of trekking we will pass the settlement of Nesam, from here we the landscape changes gradually passing through pine forests and you will arrive in the village of Gorcha. The village has majority number of people following Limbu, Tamang and Sherpa people. As we will reach the village early we can explore the village, we can walk to the top of the village where there is a Limbu Shrine. We can camp our tents here in a suitable campsite infront of the Shrine.

Day 06: Gorcha to Deurali Bhanjyang (2,800m/6,604ft) 4hrs trek

Today’s trail is also ascending uphill; after having breakfast we leave Gorcha. The landscape changes as we trek higher, we trek through rhododendron forests which are at their best when they bloom during spring. Few hours of treeking until we reach Deurali Bhanjyang for lunch, Deurali Bhanjyang is a small open plot in the forest. From here we can see beautiful views of Kanchenjunga range, here is a teashop next to which we can camp the night.

Day 07: Deurali Bhanjyang to Nundhaki (1,540m/5,052ft) 6hrs trek

Finally today we descend leaving Deurali Bhanjyang and again ascend along with beautiful views of Kanchenjunga Range and Makalu Range. We climb to a small pass and after the pass the trail steeply descends and soon we trek through flat trail, as we descend further we arrive at a grassy area where there is a lake nearby and from here we ascend again. We will reach the village of Singring and again continue trekking to the small village, Nundhaki. There are only few lodges and houses here, we will find a suitable camping site and camp our tetns here for the night.

Day 08: Nundhaki to Bhanjyang Pucha (824m/2,703ft) 5hrs trek

We will have an early breakfast and rejoin our trail; the trail begins with descend to a dirt road where you might come across few motor bikes as the villages use this road too. As we continue trekking we leave the dirt road and rejoin the trekking route through stairs to Bhuddhabari, here we will cross two suspension bridges and trek along the road again. From here we then reach a beautiful village called Chitlang, after Chitlang we come across another village called Pokhari Bazar; this is a larger village. We can also stop here for lunch. After having lunch we then cross another settlement known as Dangigaon to another bigger village called Chainpur. Now, from here we trek through a small path that takes us back to the road, within few hours of trekking we will then reach Bhanjyang Kharka and we then descend through a narrow path to our campsite. From here beautiful views of hills can be seen.

Day 09: Bhanjyang Pucha to Khadbari (1,041m/3,415ft) 6hrs trek

Today we descend back towards end of our trek. After having breakfast the trail makes steep descent into the forest to Hewa Khola, it is a very beautiful river. We then cross the river to rice terraces leading back into the forest; soon we will pass the village of Ghomare. From here we trek further to another village, Lingling, we can stop here to have lunch. However, leaving this village we gradually descend for some time and then the trail descends steeply to Dobnatar, it is a small village with bamboo houses. Trekking further we descend for a while and again trek uphill along the Lankhuwa Khola. We then cross a suspension bridge to Barani and further to Kkadbari, it is a small town. The town is the district headquarters of Sankhuasabha District, there are few lodges and restraints here. We will accommodate the night here.

Day 10: Khadbari to Tumlingtar 1hr drive/ Tumlingtar to Kathmandu hrs flight

We will wake up early and will be transferred to airport at Tumlingtar. From Tumlingtar we take flight to Kathmandu. Once we reach Kathmandu you will be transferred to our hotel. You can either relax in the camp or explore the city.

Day 11: Back Home

You have free leisure time until your flight time when you will be transferred to the airport and then fly back home.
