“Let’s hike around to discover countryside with an authentic traditional house, local culture, visiting the shrines and capturing the alluring views in our cameras for beautiful hiking memories.”
Champadevi hill is situated in the southern part of the Kathmandu valley with an altitude of 2285 m. It is a popular pilgrimage site in both Hindu and Buddhist religions. If you are in the valley somewhere near full moon day, it is considered auspicious to make an offering to Champadevi on the day.
Champadevi portrays a short and a bit challenging hike. We start in the morning after an hour drive to the Pharping village which is 25 km from the heart of Kathmandu. You will be welcomed with a landscape adorned by the Buddhist monasteries. If you have time you must get down at Arya Tara Monastery for nuns run by the famous singing nun of Nepal called Aani Choying.
We set off our hiking expedition from Pharping village where you get to see the traditional lifestyle of locals. Then we move through the trail that goes slowly uphill for about half an hour towards the north edge and then climbs up more through the lush jungle to Champadevi. To reach the top of the hill it will take approximately four hours.
You will get an opportunity to see magnificent panorama view of Himalayas range like Mt. Langtang, Mt. Gauri Shankar, Mt. Jugal, Mt. Dorje Lakpa. The site offers splendid bird eye view of Kathmandu valley, Kirtipur City and Pharping village. Also, you can observe Chandragiri hill on your right and Pulchowki Hill on your left.
You can visit the holy site of Hindu shrine where locals perform their rituals on a special occasion. We will stay there for a while appreciating the wonderful vistas from the ridge and taking pictures. There are numerous return routes. After an amazing trip, we descend steeply down and head down to the highway and drive back to Kathmandu.
