Pikey Peak Family Trek Nepal

It’s hard to distill with appropriate justice our family’s weeklong adventure organized by Tulsi at Sanctuary Treks Nepal, but I’ll try. In Dec. 2025, our 10-person group started in the southeastern part of Nepal at Koshitappu Wildlife Reserve outside of Biratnagar, which was a plane ride away from Kathmandu, and a day-long bus ride away from the start of our actual trek in the north, near Dhap, where we hiked a 5-day portion of the Pikey Peak trail, including the 13,500’ summit of Pikey Peak. The logistics of getting to Biratnagar and then to Dhap was a bit out of the ordinary for a typical trek, but Tulsi not only picked us all up from KTM airport at the very beginning of our journey, but then got us all safely to Biratnagar, then to Dhap. (Kudos to our bus driver to Dhap, who safely navigated a big detour off the paved roads, and somehow crossed rivers, boulders…steered us around precarious ledges on dusty dirt trails that could hardly pass as roads, and delivering us safely to our first tea house lodge in the mountains at 9500’. Talk about a Nepali adventure!)

Once on the trails, our extraordinary guides, Khadka Ral, Bishal, and Chhiring exhibited utter professionalism, care, and warmth throughout the entire journey. From leading us thru the trails to ensuring “everyone’s” hands were sanitized prior to eating, and making sure we were all safe, well fed, and even pampered with hot water bottles each night. A few in our group needed a little extra care due to orthopedic concerns and Khadka was able to arrange transport on 2 occasions to ferry some to our final destination. These 3 men could not have worked any harder. Their dedication to our safety and enjoyment was evident 100% of the time. They were also great companions on the long walks. And what unforgettable walks these were! The trek was stunning and the peak climb was everything I’d hoped for.

And let me praise our energetic and joyful porters: Lekchandra, Khemsaf, Robin, Nabaraj, Sarke, & Ramkumar. (Forgive any misspellings.) A HUGE thank you for schlepping our very heavy duffles up and down and up and down and up and down some more. How my bag seemed to get heavier each day is a total mystery, but you all did this without a whiff of complaint. Thank you!

Our trek was glorious. Doing it in December meant far fewer people around, but colder weather. Thankfully, the ginger lemon honey tea, dal bhat and Sherpa stew sustained us all and we rarely, if ever, were uncomfortable. And our lodge hosts were also wonderful. I can’t recommend Sanctuary Treks Nepal enough and am already dreaming about another trek in Nepal! Thank you Tulsi for a magical & unforgettable trip of a lifetime. You all are the BEST! ~Lizanne

Family Trek to Pikey Peak Nepal

Wow, like a symphony coming together with the utmost of precision and finesse, Nepal Sanctuary Treks (NST) was there for us as we made the journey to Pikey’s Peak.
We had the fortune of trekking on a family vacation with members that had gone on a number of Nepali trekking trips before, so ST was fully vetted and we had the sense that we were getting the best.
They did not disappoint! With our group of 10 ranging in ages from 17-82 years of age, the guides were there for all of us 150 percent—every step of the way. Whether it was to encourage us on, provide a bandaid, do the nightly pulse oximeter check to monitor our adaptation to the altitude, ST had things in control.
And the staff couldn’t have been kinder or more attentive.

The Pikey’s Peak trek included undulating trails, walks in the woods, as well as reaching above tree line with wide sweeping vistas of villages and snowcapped mountains in the Himalayan range. Nothing short of gorgeous.

We were picked up and taken back to the airport, taken to a nature reserve for a 2 night stay and provided meals (and purified water) and lodging in tea houses during the 5 day trek. Our package also included two domestic flights. Tulsi, the owner/manager of ST gave us an orientation before starting, met us when we arrived at the Kathmandu airport and again upon completion of the tour. He was available for questions months preceding the trip via email.
We were so impressed with Sanctuary Treks and would highly recommend to anyone planning to trek to engage its services.

Our guides and porters, Khadka, Bishal, Chhering, Ram Kumar, Nabaraj, Lakchandra, Sarke, Khemraj and Robin were simply amazing. It was really hard to say Goodbye.

Pikey Peak Family Trek in Nepal – What an incredible holiday trek! Tulsi and his crew took care of our every need from the moment we landed in Kathmandu until our departure from Nepal. Every detail—from transportation to food and lodging throughout the trek—was meticulously planned and flawlessly executed. We were accompanied by exceptionally capable, kind, and caring guides and porters who made our six-day trek during the holidays truly enjoyable. Not only did they keep us well fed, comfortably housed, and safe (they even checked our heart rate and oxygen levels every night!), they also made my son’s 19th birthday unforgettable by surprising him with a cake, a topi, and a khata. If you’re looking for a trekking company to help you explore the magnificent sights of Nepal, look no further than Nepal Sanctuary Treks!

Tulsi, Hebi and Man helped make our time in Nepal wonderful. Hebi was an excellent guide on our Khopra Ridge trek, keeping us well paced as we gained altitude and Man was our porter, always smiling and ever willing to help these two late 60s women.

Tulsi put it all together, adapting quickly to changes we had to make because of a previous cancellation and put us in lovely accommodations that were clean, safe, reasonable and had good food. I’ve not been much for guided trips earlier in my life, but this is a great way to go. It was very easy. Every driver we had was early, even in inclement weather, all travel arrangements worked well and made travel easy over the three weeks we were there. We never had a hiccup in travel, whether it was teahouse accommodation or transportation, which I find amazing. The prices were very reasonable, the people lovely and I want to return for another trip with Hebi and Man!

Tulsi runs a great company, has great people working for and with him. You will not be disappointed if you go with them. I am very grateful for the care they took of us.

Sanctuary arranged a custom trip that included trekking a section of the Mundum Trail as well as a birding expedition, stays in Patan and much more.
Our guide Kadka who was with us throughout was a paragon of thoughtfulness, flexibility and hard work. We had three assistant guides and a cook staff on the trek portion as well. Everyone was wonderful.
I recommend Nepal Sanctuary Treks for any type of travel in Nepal.

We (my partner and I) had an amazing experience trekking to the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri with Nepal Sanctuary Treks! From the very beginning, Tulsi was incredibly responsive, professional, and helped us design a personalized itinerary that perfectly matched what we wanted. From the moment we arrived in Nepal, everything was well organized: flights, ground transportation, hotels, and tea houses were all arranged so we didn’t have to worry about a thing before or after our trek (including a great Kathmandu tour with our wonderful guide Kumar). The team truly went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, healthy, and comfortable throughout our trip.

The trek itself was spectacular, with breathtaking mountain and glacier views, and even a few wildlife sightings. Gokyo and the surrounding region is truly one of the most beautiful and memorable places we have ever visited. What really made the journey unforgettable was our wonderful trekking team. Our guide, Galden, was exceptional! He was patient, friendly, fun, and knowledgeable about the mountains and local culture. He was very attentive, always making sure we were well taken care of on the trail and in the tea houses, and he was flexible when we needed to make changes to our route. Our porter, Chandra, was also fantastic, always smiling, kind, and ready to help with anything we needed.

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and we are grateful to the entire Nepal Sanctuary Treks team for making this journey so enjoyable and memorable. If we’re lucky enough to trek in Nepal again, we will definitely choose Nepal Sanctuary Treks without hesitation!

My husband and I had a wonderful three weeks in Nepal, thanks to Tulsi and his crew at Nepal Sanctuary Treks. From being recognized by our driver the moment we stepped out of the Katmandu Airport to when we were delivered back to the airport by Tulsi, himself, the arrangements and the care were outstanding.

We signed up to hike the Manaslu Circuit. We hit a major snag early on when unseasonable monsoon rains and heavy snow at high elevations led to numerous landslides. The Nepali police temporarily closed the route and we were stopped at our first village for four days. Tulsi had a backup plan for a different trek in case we did not have time to complete the Manaslu Circuit once it opened. And our wonderful guide and porter, Tsering and Tsering, graciously agreed to extend the time away from their families if we wanted to proceed with the Manaslu Circuit once the route opened.

We decided to wait it out and are so glad we did. The varied terrain, beautiful scenery, and cultural aspects of the Manaslu Circuit were amazing. The two Tserings did a great job of alerting us to the hazards of the trail (because of the many landslides), figuring out a good pace for us so we could enjoy and finish the trek and, securing lodging in what was a scramble because of the temporary trail closure. The hotels Tulsi reserved for us before and after our trek were comfortable, culturally interesting and, in some cases, historic. Our interactions with Tulsi and our guide, porter and drivers felt personal and allowed us to get glimpses of life in Nepal outside of the trekking world.

We would heartily recommend Nepal Sanctuary Treks for anyone contemplating a trip to Nepal.
