Trip Overview

This Barabise to Betrawati Trek is beautiful and especially for trekkers who want to experience traditional Nepali culture. This section is the closest to Kathmandu, although being closest to Kathmandu the people of the villages follow their traditional cultures and wear traditional dresses too. The people of these villages offer an interesting mix of Buddhist and Hindu cultures; there are Tamang, Sherpa, Newar and Chettri villages throughout the village. You will be trekking through the countryside and through forests in some parts of the trail. You will be offered amazing views of Langtang range and Dorje Lakpa.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport (1,302m/4,270ft)

You will be received and escorted to the hotel by our staff, refresh yourself and take some rest or explore the area around your hotel. Accommodate at Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and Trek preparation

Kathmandu is the cultural heart of Nepal and has been a famous destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its borders to visitors. Today after breakfast we will explore Kathmandu valley, a guided tour will be conducted to major world heritage sites inside the valley. As Kathmandu valley is a beautiful combination of Hinduism and Buddhism we will visit historical sites like; Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath (monkey temple) and Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath which is one of the largest stupa in the world. After the tour you will prepare yourself for the trek, will be briefed about the trek; buy all the trekking equipments required and overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Barabise (870m/2,854ft) 4hrs drive

You will have an early breakfast in the hotel and a vehicle organized by the company will drive us Barabise, it is a market area with few guesthouses and restraunts. Once we reach there you can explore the village or relax, we will be spending the night here.

Day 04: Barabise to Jalbire (830m/2,723ft) 8hrs trek

Trek starts! Today’s trek is a long one; we have an early breakfast and begin to trek. From Barabise we take the road going before the bridge, as we trek through the stairs we will reach a rough dirt road. Along the trail we come across many Y-junctions, we will choose the one that ascends. Continuing to trek we reach a settlement of Kalikha and from here we follow the trail that goes behind the school, the trail continues climbing gradually. We then pass another village known a Ramche and trek following the Dudh Kosi River below us; trekking further we enter a small path and climb up to another larger path. Soon we reach a high point from where we can see splendid view of Dudh Koshi valley and hills around, from here the trail then descends to a stream and after the stream the trail slowly climbs up to the village of Chimling. The village has few good restaurants so the village can be a good stop for lunch, after having our lunch we continue to trek following the Sunkoshi River. The trail is mostly gradual and flat-walking; along the trail we pass the village of Mankha from where the trail starts to climb, we will trek through agricultural field on a small trail and pass another village known as Chilauni. From here we trek another hour to Kalleri and from here another hour to Phulpinkot, the trail is mostly flat with few ups and down. Few more minutes from Phulpinkot will take to us to Jalbire, a Newari village with few lodges and restaurants. We will find a suitable camping site and camp the night here.

Day 05: Jalbire to Khobre (2,435m/7,988ft) 7-8hrs trek

Today’s trek is mostly climbing as we ascend to higher altitude with total ascend about 2,180m. After having an early breakfast we rejoin the trail; close to a suspension bridge, there is a shrine with sleeping Lord Vishnu, we can visit there along the trail. We then cross the suspension bridge and enter a main road that leads to a bridge over Balephi Khola, after crossing the bridge we trek for few minutes and trek through a small trail passing the fields. Continuing to trek through forests along with beautiful views of Dorje Lhakpa, as we trek we pass a spread-out village of Batase. From here it is an hour to another village Phulping; we can stop here for lunch. After having lunch we continue trekking and climb to the top of a ridge, from the top of the ridge we will be offered with views of both sides of the green hills. From here the trail gets flatter as we enter a pine forest and soon we trek through much smaller trail that is flatter and passes through a lush forest. As we trek the landscapes changes and we pass another village, Bhasre, the trail continues climbing through a dirt road with few shortcuts in between. However, when we are about to reach Khobre we trek on road passing through rhododendron and pine forests and the village of Poserel Lamidada. Khobre is a small Sherpa village which offers beautiful view of the himalayan ranges, we will find a suitable camping site and camp the night here.

Day 06: Khobre to Pokhare Bhanjyang (1,575m/5,167ft) 9hrs trek

Today is a long trek day; we have an early breakfast and leave Khobre, just as we leave there is a shortcut going down that will take us to a small settlement of Okhreni. We pass Okhreni and continue trekking through forest along with beautiful view of the Himalayan; soon we cross a bridge next to a waterfall and continue trekking to a big Tamang village of Bote Namla, we follow the trail down through the village and continue trekking on a dirt road. After about an hour we come across a small landslide which is a bit challenging section of today’s trek, once we cross the landslide we continue to descend. We pass a Chettri village of Tar Namlang and reach a road near to Indrawati River; we follow the stream and pass another Tamang village of Chinde. The village has few restaurants where we can stop for lunch, after lunch we continue to trek. We cross a stream and enter a forest then soon pass another Tamang village of Bhaskarka, we will continue trekking through fields and reach another village called Labgaon. From here it is about an hour to Pokhare Bhanjyang, a Tamang village where there are few guest houses and campsites where we can camp the night.

Day 07: Pokhare Bhanjyang to Gyalthung (985m/3,231ft) 2hrs trek

Today is the shortest trek day; after having breakfast we rejoin the trail. The trail steeply descends through the fields and roads, along the trail we pass several villages like; Bartitok and Dubatsor Chap. We will enter a small trail that takes us through beautiful terraces and the trail gets flatter, we then trek through the roads again. The trail brings us to a small village of Garibesi which is next to Melamchi Khola and we cross the river which then takes us to our destination, the small town of Gyalthung. There are few basic guest houses here and it is also accessible to road, we will spend the night here.

Day 08: Gyalthung to Samundratar (915m/3,001ft) [via Gul Bhanjyang (2,111m/6,925ft) 8hrs trek

We have an early breakfast and leave Gyalthung. Just as we leave the town we cross a suspension bridge over Melamchi River, after crossing the river we follow the road. We will soon come across a construction site of Melamchi water-supply; we cross a bridge here and begin to trek steeply. The trail takes us to the dirt trail again, we then reach Bolde village. From here the trail becomes smaller and steeper and soon after a Y-junction it goes through fields, we then pass a small village known as Gurungaon and further another village, Gul Bhanjyang. Continuing to trek we arrive at a gompa from where there are many descending shortcuts passing few ore other villages like Thulo Golbu and Dadagaon. As we descend more we come to a river at Jhaghare then back on the road following Chake Khola, within few hours from here we will reach the village of Samundratar. It is a nice town with Hindu and Tamang people living, we camp the night here.

Day 09: Samundratar to Betrawati (605m/1,984ft) 9hrs

Today is a very long trek day and last day of our trek; after having an early breakfast we leave Samundratar and cross a suspension bridge over Chake Khola. As we trek we pass the village of Sabesi, Koskade and Kharanitar, we trek through beautiful countryside. After the village we cross another suspension bridge and trek steeply through terraces and after few hours we reach another village of Narja/Narjamandap, here in this village we can stop by for lunch. After lunch we pass few other villages like Narja Bhanjyang, Narja Moria and Martum Bhanjyang. After Martum Bhanjyang we trek through a large path and through fields as we then reach Garigaon village, after which the path goes up slightly up. We climb up to Gore Bhanjyang where there is a white stupa and gompa surrounded by prayer flags. From here the trail goes down to the village of Chokhate, Kuwapani, Kotung and Mahabir. We then get to the same level as Phalakhu Khola and trek for few more hours to Betrawati, it is a small town with market area and restraunts. We will spend the night here.

Day 10: Betrawati to Kathmandu 5hrs drive

After we have our breakfast we get on to a vehicle organized by the company, we will then drive back to Kathmandu. Once we reach Kathmnadu you will be transferred to your hotel and you can refresh, relax in the hotel or explore the evening time of Kathmnadu. We will accommodate the night here.

Day 11: Spare day in Kathmandu

We will wake up late and have a good proper breakfast. You will have the whole day to yourselves to either rest in your hotel or explore Kathmandu valley. We will spend the night in Kathmandu.

Day 12: Back home

Leisure time and explore Kathmandu until the departure time when you will be transferred to airport and fly back home.
